“A further announcement will be made in due course.”

Fred was later seen at a Brazil training session at Tottenham’s Enfield base being congratulated by team-mates Neymar and Filipe Luis.

Brazilian sources confirmed last night that the midfielder was granted permission to leave the international camp after the clash with Croatia to undergo the medical.

Fred was signed by Shakhtar in 2013 for £12million from Internacional in Brazil, where he was a two-time Campeonato Gaucho champion.

Since then, the 24-year-old has been a regular, helping them claim two league titles, two domestic cups and three Super Cups, as well as playing in the Champions League.
