MANCHESTER UNITED slumped to a humbling 1-0 loss at the hands of Feyenoord in their Europa League curtain-raiser on Thursday.
A frustrating result no doubt for Jose Mourinho and Co, but with five games still to play in Group A, including two against Fenerbahce and Zorya Luhansk, the Old Trafford faithful will be hopeful of progressing to the knockout stages.
But before you think the worst is out of the way, last night’s defeat – thanks to a lacklustre display in Holland and a 79th minute Tonny Vilhena strike – broke TWO records in ineptitude.
First of all, it’s the second season in a row United have lost their opening European game.
Last time around they dropped all three points at the hands of another Dutch opponent, PSV, 2-1 under the leadership of Louis van Gaal.
Something of a Netherlands theme here...
On top of that, United have now lost FOUR European away games in a row.
Last season, they lost 2-0 against Liverpool at Anfield and 2-1 against FC Midtjylland - both in the Europa League knockout stages - as well as going down 3-2 against Wolfsburg in the Champions League group stage.

So where lies the problem? Last night would suggest they need to find their shooting boots.
But if you look at their recent European record - home and away - United have failed to keep a clean sheet in SIX games now, a record stretching back to November of last year.
As well as the 1-0 loss to Dirk Kuyt and Co, they succumbed to a 1-1 draw and 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Europa League last-16 stage last season.
Before that, they did manage to beat FC Midtjylland 5-1 thanks to a certain young English forward, while losing 2-1 in Denmark.
Going even further back, they shipped three against Bundesliga big-wigs Wolfsburg.
Their last clean sheet in Europe was against PSV during a 0-0 draw in November 2015.
So whether the problem is up top or at the back, something needs to change drastically... And quickly.
Something tells me Mr Mourinho already knows that, though.
