Manchester United’s pre-season goes from bad to worse when the plane they are on diverts

THERE was yet more frustration for Manchester United‘s players following their 4-1 pre-season defeat to Borussia Dortmund when the plane they were on was forced to make an unscheduled landing.

The team were flying out of Shanghai on to Beijing following yesterday’s heavy defeat, but bad weather meant they had to land at an airport on the way.

Midfielder Memphis Depay filmed a video that he shared on social media, as he and the rest of the squad were forced to disembark onto the tarmac.

He titled it "lost somewhere in China", with the footage showing him with the hood of his Manchester United coat up.

"We had to make a quick landing somewhere," he says, before he asks the air hostess where they are.

But the sound of the engine, and the difficult pronunciation means he is none the wiser.

"We tried to fly to Beijing, but the weather is a little bit bad, so we had to land somewhere else," adds the 22-year-old winger.

Depay also makes sure to get the captain in the clip.

"I hope we can leave soon, so we can prepare ourselves for the game against Manchester City," he adds.

The Red Devils face their arch-enemies in the International Champions Cup pre-season clash in Beijing at 12.30pm local time on Monday.

They will be desperate to recover from the Dortmund defeat. The one positive to take out of that game was a first goal for new-signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan against his former club.

But new boss Jose Mourinho will be desperate for an improved defensive display against Pep Guardiola's City outfit.
