Manchester United stars must take the blame, not just Jose Mourinho and Arsenal are crazy to think they can challenge for title next season

JOSE MOURINHO is right to think that some of his big names should take responsibility for their performances.

Mourinho’s meticulous approach can stifle the life out of games, but it does not stop his players expressing themselves when they are going forward.

Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez were dreadful again on Saturday, failing to make any meaningful impact in the final game of United’s season.

Mourinho signed the pair of them, spending big money to take them to Old Trafford and ultimately he will be responsible.

Even so, they should be at the top of their game in an FA cup final.

CHELSEA certainly knew Antonio Conte was high maintenance before making him their manager.

They did the backgrounds checks with Juventus before appointing him two years ago and knew that he was prone to public disagreements and fallouts with the board.

In the end, Juve could not wait for him to leave.

Conte admits he is hard to work with and he reminded Chelsea’s Iron Lady Marina Granovskaia that he is not prepared to change after lifting the FA Cup on Saturday.

Only a brave man takes on Chelsea, but Conte is on safe ground with the fans after delivering silverware.

THE FA must do something about the swathes of empty Club Wembley seats at the start of the second half of their showpiece event.

Despite the temptation to have one more prawn sandwich or order up another glass of vino before the second half it is a dreadful reflection on the FA Cup final.

Manchester United and Chelsea are two of the biggest teams in the country, but even that could not draw the corporate types back into their seats in time for the restart.

THE idea that Arsenal have a squad capable of challenging English football’s elite next season is crazy.

They are miles away from competing with Manchester City for the Premier League title, no matter who the coach is.

Arsenal seem to think that appointing Mikel Arteta, a skilful, tidy footballer in his heyday, solve all their problems.

The reality is that the squad requires major surgery and some big signings to break back into the top four.

GIANLUIGI BUFFON should be remembered as one of the all time greats after announcing he is leaving Juventus.

His outburst after the Champions League semi-final defeat against Real Madrid tarnished his reputation.

But it would be disrespectful to ignore his dedication to the sport and his immense contribution down the years.

Buffon’s commitment to the sport, the passion he showed for his profession, marked him out long before his motormouth attack on English ref Michael Oliver.

It was a mistake, but Buffon still remains one of the very best of all time.
