Marco Silva’s sacking raises question of having a transfer window for managers

THERE is a “school of thought” in football management that you leave or wait to be sacked.

Well, Marco Silva couldn’t leave Watford FC and then got sacked.

The world of football management is like no other, only two months ago Marco Silva was one of the most sought-after managers in the game.

Everton reportedly wanted him as their new boss and Watford rejected their approach.

Now they have sacked Silva, citing that the unwanted approach from a Premier League rival unsettled their manager and club.

The irony with this situation is that only two months ago Watford could have got substantial compensation for Silva and now they find themselves sacking him and having to pay him off.

The transfer window was brought in partly to stop clubs unsettling players during the season, do we now need a transfer window for managers?

If Watford are right and the approach from a club for their manager unsettled their season, then should clubs be allowed to approach managers at other clubs?

Stoke didn’t have the problem of approaching a manager already in a job because they went for the surprise choice of Paul Lambert.

Watching Lambert on the sideline of the Huddersfield game, he looks reinvigorated and re-energised.

It seems that there are plenty of good managers out there, but it’s interesting how quickly their stock value can change.
