Milan broke FFP rules with last summer’s controversial sale and subsequent spending spree and are set to be banned from entering any European competition.

But that hasn’t made them a less attractive option, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting first-choice targets Memphis and Fellaini are interested regardless.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho had been desperate for Fellaini to stay at Old Trafford.

But the Belgian looks likely to leave after the Red Devils failed to meet his contract demands, and Milan are ready to swoop in.

They believe signing Fellaini on a free transfer would represent good business, and they would be prepared to give him a wage increase.

His former United team-mate Memphis, meanwhile, enjoyed arguably the best season of his career as his 19 goals and 13 assists helped Lyon qualify for the Champions League.

The Dutch international is rebuilding his career after leaving Old Trafford and produced stoppage time winners against Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille as well as a crucial hat-trick to secure third place on the final day of the campaign.

He is at the top of Milan’s shopping list and his arrival could see Suso leave.
