Marseille were dealt a blow when star player Dimitri Payet left the pitch in tears after picking up an injury in the first half.
The scoreline mirrored the Spanish side’s last Europa League final win over Athletic Bilbao in 2012 and cemented their status as one of the continent’s most consistent teams.
The only side to overcome them in knockout European football since 2013 are Real Madrid.
Their arch-rivals beat them in the 2014 and 2016 Champions League finals and knocked them out of the same competition in 2015 and 2017.
