Martin Tyler spends his day off working as assistant manager at non-league Hampton and Richmond

MARTIN Tyler could be forgiven for wanting to put his feet up and enjoy a quiet snooze on his day off.

After all, at the age of 72, the Voice of Football is past the age most men decide to call it a day.

But the veteran commentator for Sky Sports and FIFA 18 is so passionate about the game, he loves nothing more than tying on his boots and working as coach to non-league side Hampton and Richmond.

Tyler was on the touchline again on Saturday, for the away game and league leaders Havant and Waterlooville.

The commentator was out on the pitch before the game, despite the freezing temperatures, to help the players with their warm-up routine.

He ran the non-league players through their drills and was happy to fetch and throw balls for them.

Then he also joined manager Alan Dowson in the dug-out for the game.

Tyler leapt to his feet several times during the match as Hampton pressed for a goal.

But at the final whistle the football addict Tyler had to settle for a point as the match remained goalless.

Hampton and Richmond play in the sixth tier of English football, and are nicknamed The Beavers after their home ground The Beveree.

“I’m really there to put the balls, bibs and cones out, fill the water bottles.

“The players are great, I’m old enough to be their grandad but I don’t feel my age.
