Mauricio Pochettino ready to be England boss after making Spurs one of world’s biggest teams

MAURICIO POCHETTINO is a future England manager once he has made Tottenham one of the best teams in the world.

The Argentinean bought completely into Southampton’s youth policy during his time at St Mary’s and nurtured the careers of a number of Three Lions cubs before moving to the north London club.

And at Spurs he has maintained that desire to push home-grown players to the forefront, with Kyle Walker, Dele Alli and Harry Kane first-team fixtures.

With the English game wallowing at its lowest ebb, after Sam Allardyce's scandalous exit, The FA might even be willing to turn to a former star of one of their oldest footballing enemies.

But Poch will put them off, at least until he has tasted glory with the White Hart Lane side.

When asked if he would be interested in the Wembley hot seat, he said: "Yes - why not? In the future, yes. Now it is impossible.

“I have signed a new five-year contract here and I think it is not my moment now, not only for England but Argentina too."

Poch has already done plenty to convince The FA that he could be the man to run the national team at some stage.

And he hopes to add to his growing reputation even further by putting Spurs on the same level as Sunday’s opponents Manchester City.

When asked if he can take Tottenham up a notch, he said: “Long-term yes. Maybe we are a little behind them now in the project but our long-term expectation is to compete with all the big clubs.

“For us it is important to build after two years. A different philosophy and project, a new stadium and training ground sets the principle to be a big, big club.

“Our aspiration is to be one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“It’s difficult to compare City and Spurs as City pay bigger salaries but we are building a big project here.”
