Meet Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston: The bearded, steak-loving European Tour golfer playing in the Open who loves to get ‘hammered’

ANDREW JOHNSTON makes it clear why he has the nickname ‘Beef’ as he demolishes a 32-ounce tomahawk steak.

The Englishman won a place in golf fans’ hearts when he said he would get “hammered” after picking up his first win at the Spanish Open in April.

And he shows he has an appetite to go with his larger-than-life personality while devouring this massive chunk of meat in America.

Johnston was playing in the WGC-Bridgestone event in Ohio, US, when he tucked into the Kobe steak.

The Golf Channel reported how Johnston, who has a place in next week’s Open at Troon, took on the meal after being challenged by a waitress.

They say she used her hands to demonstrate the sheer size of the slab before adding that her husband had finished it in one sitting just a few days earlier.

Johnston replied: “Right, now you’ve challenged me. I’ll do the Tommie. I feel sweaty already thinking about this.”

It is the kind of happy-go-lucky spirit that saw him return home to North Middlesex Golf Club after his maiden win for a knees-up with mates.

But it is a good proper meal that Johnston loves – even on his clubs!

He showed off this lob wedge emblazoned with all different types of steak.

And he even uses his sticks to smash a cheeseburger to smithereens when the mood takes him.
