Michael Keane could return to Manchester United for free next season – as Burnley boss Sean Dyche refuses to sell England defender on the cheap

SEAN DYCHE warned Manchester United he would rather let Michael Keane leave Burnley for nothing in 12 months than sell him on the cheap this summer.

Old Trafford target Keane has refused to sign a new deal at Turf Moor and his contract has a year to run.

The £25million-rated defender, who made his England debut last month, left United for Burnley for £3m in 2015.

But Clarets manager Dyche insists the club are not under pressure to cash in on Keane and will allow the 24-year-old to run down his contract.

Dyche, preparing for United’s visit tomorrow, said: “We’re in a great position if that came around.

“We’re in a stronger position now — that’s where the club has changed.

“It would have to be appropriate for all parties — and all parties are in the loop.”

Everton and Liverpool are also tracking the centre-back.

But Dyche insists the speculation over Keane is no distraction as his side aim for a second successive season in the top flight for the first time since the 70s.

He added: “It’s a natural part of the club’s continuing progress.

“It’s good in one way to have your players linked and getting recognised by, usually, bigger clubs.”
