The seven-world champion is still recovering at home in Switzerland after suffering head injuries in the 2013 crash, which left him in a coma for nearly six months.

Jean Todt, who now as works as the World Automobile Federation (FIA) president, managed Schumacher during his illustrious career at Ferrari.

Todt spoke about Schumacher when the motor sport icon was inducted into the FIA’s hall of fame on Monday, according to the Daily Express.

He reportedly said: “We miss Michael, he’s there, still fighting.

“Michael is someone very special, someone special for motorsport.”

Vettel idolised Schumacher growing up and got the chance to race against him when he came out of retirement in 2010.

The current Ferrari driver was recently asked about Schumacher by the Swiss German-language tabloid Blick.

He said: “What, that’s how long ago it happened?

“That is an extremely long time ago.

“You can see how time flies.

“Above all we in Formula One are coached on a daily basis to look ahead.

“The next race, the next race. That’s how the years go by.

“Of course, Michael is still missed by Formula One.

“And especially we at Ferrari would be happy if he could stand by our side with advice in the race for the world title.

“If anyone knows how to move forward, then it is him.”

Schumacher, who has not been seen in public since the crash, has a son Mick, 18, and daughter Gina-Maria, 20.

His daughter last week posted an inspirational message about her dad’s recovery to fans, reported the Daily Star.
