What they said

Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has been full of praise for Mauricio Pochettino, who he says is his friend, ahead of the two crossing paths on Saturday.

"He is doing an amazing job - it was the same last season because he was close to winning the league and again this season, he is fighting to repeat that.

"We did the licence course together and we have a really good relationship. But after the referee blows the whistle, we are not friends, for sure - just for 90 minutes."

And Tottenham manager Pochettino has been similarly complimentary to his adversary.

"We did our coaching badges together. And then we played against each other. We have a very good relationship. He was a centre-back and I was too. We were on opposite sides. He was a very good player.

"I think after two years they achieved promotion to the Premier League which is a fantastic job."
