We all just assume footballers live the life of luxury, right?
With huge wages, advertising deals and incentives, it’s considered the norm that professional players are living it up in high-class apartments and lavish mansions.
Well, not Bernardo Silva.
The Monaco star maybe one of football’s most coveted midfielders at the moment, but it seems the youngster remains grounded by living in a modest apartment that could be mistaken for a student flat.
In an interview for Portuguese sports network Sports TV, Silva invited former Portugal international Simao into his cosy abode.
The preview video, which was then posted on Reddit, sparked a discussion about just how regular his home in Monaco was.
Many pointed to the club’s admirably strict wage structure compared to other French clubs, coupled with the high price of rent in the principality.
In fact, despite the quality throughout the Monaco squad, it is thought only Joao Moutinho and Radamel Falcao earn large wages.
However, Silva may have to start packing up his belongings, with multiple clubs set to bid for him this summer.
The midfielder has been instrumental for Monaco this season, while Les Rouges et Blancs have exceeded all expectations by challenging at the top of the Ligue 1 table and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.
And if he does move, maybe he’ll think about upgrading his flat?
