Mum-of-six killed by ‘drunk driver’, 21, in crash while heading home from visiting her premature twins in hospital

A DRIVER who was reportedly three times the alcohol limit has been charged with vehicular homicide after she hit and killed a mother-of-six who had just been visiting her premature twins in hospital.

Alexia Cina, 21, reportedly hit a curb and sideswiped another vehicle before crashing into Katie Evans’ car.

The Santa Clarita Valley Signal reported that Mrs Evans, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene – less than a mile from her home – in California.

Police said “alcohol was found in the (Cina’s) car”, reported the New York Post.

Yesterday Cina was charged with felony vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence, causing injury.

A fundraising page on YouCaring, set up following Mrs Evans’ death, has raised more than $300,000 (£227,000) for her family.

Natalie Mortensen, who set up the page, said: “Katie couldn’t go a day without visiting her brand-new twin girls in the hospital.

“She was a devoted mother, sister and wife and will be immensely missed.

“There will be many childcare costs as well as unforeseen expenses.

“Jacob thought he would have to uproot his kids and move them close to family but due to your generosity, he’s now beginning to explore how he can keep the family in southern California with their friends and neighbours.”

The twins were born 12 weeks early in August, her husband told The People.

Jacob, 41, who works for an aerospace control firm, said: “She waited 15 years for these girls, they were incredibly precious to her.”

He revealed his boys were naturally devastated and “cried their little hearts out”.

But he said that was “not angry at the driver, because there’s too much anger in the world already”.
