Newcastle battling it out with West Ham, Brighton and Swansea for £20m Benfica winger Franco Cervi


NEWCASTLE are one of four Premier League clubs interested in signing Benfica winger Franco Cervi.

Rafa Benitez’s Toon, West Ham, Brighton and Swansea are all tracking the £20million-rated Argentine.

Cervi is enjoying a great season with Benfica but is keen to make a move to England this summer.

The 23-year-old began his career at Rosario Central in his homeland before joining Benfica in 2016.

He has started 27 of the Portuguese league leaders’ 31 top-flight games this season.

Cervi has also played in the Champions League and was linked with a move to German giants Borussia Dortmund last year.

Newcastle boss Benitez wants to sign a left winger this summer and Cervi fits the bill if he cannot keep Chelsea loanee Kenedy.

Both Brighton and Swansea are seeking more pace in their attacks and see Cervi as a decent solution.

Cervi, incidentally, is known as Little ‘Chucky’ and hails from Rosario.

He is the latest of a prolific footballing production line in Argentina’s second city that includes Angel di Maria, Ever Banega, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Mauro Icardi, Max Rodriguez, Ezequiel Garay and Lionel Messi.

He joined Central at six years of age and spent 13 years with the club before making his debut in 2014.
