SIX Premier League clubs have spoken to Newcastle about signing Andros Townsend.
The former Tottenham winger, who just missed out on the final 23-man England squad for Euro 2016, is believed to have a £12million release clause in his contract.
That has Southampton, Everton, Stoke, Watford, Swansea and Crystal Palace interested.
There is yet to be a formal bid but it seems increasingly likely that Townsend, 24, will quit St James’ Park.
The former Spurs man was in the wilderness before a £12m switch to Tyneside in January, where he then fired four in 13 games to almost help Toon pull off a great escape.
Townsend’s performances almost kept Newcastle in the Premier League.
And Newcastle have been quick to reassure fans who expected a summer exodus following the drop.
A club statement read: “We have had enquiries for some of our players, but our position remains the same.
“We want to retain and build a very strong squad at Newcastle United for the forthcoming season and that is absolutely what we will do.
“We will always act in the best interests of the club and the squad.”
Randolph a Hammers target
WEST HAM’S Darren Randolph is a £3m target for Southampton.
Saints want the Republic of Ireland keeper, set to face France tomorrow, as competition for Fraser Forster.
Northern Ireland keeper Michael McGovern is another to have impressed Saints.
And he is an attractive preposition after running his contract down at Hamilton Accies.
