SAM ALLARDYCE will be interviewed by the Fa this week with a chance to convince them he is better than Jurgen Klinsmann for the job.

According to the Guardian, the Sunderland boss has been invited by the governing body as he is seen as the best Englishman available.

Allardyce, 61, has been backed by Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson for the role vacated by Roy Hodgson after the Three Lions’ embarrassing exit from Euro 2016.

And Fa vice-chairman David Gill met with Ferguson to discuss the prospect of Big Sam taking the job.

The former West Ham chief has a release clause in his contract at the Stadium of Light where he led the Black Cats to safety last season.

Allardyce is well known for overachieving with teams such as Bolton and West Ham and making the most of his resources.

But the problem lies with the style of football Allardyce is known for which to some fans is seen as unattractive.

Allardyce was interviewed for the Three Lions role back in 2006 but lost out to Steve McLaren which left him seething.

He wrote in his autobiography.“I wanted to do a real knock-your-socks-off interview for the FA, so I put together a PowerPoint which looked at every single detail.

“There was nothing missing. Nobody but nobody was going to beat it. But then Brian Barwick, the chief executive, told me there were no PowerPoint facilities at the interview venue, so I had to print off hard copies for the panel. So much for the progressive FA.”

Jurgen Klinsmann is also in the running for the job and is the favourite with the FA also set for talks with him about the job.

FA head of elite development Dan Ashworth will meet Redknapp after it emerged that the former Tottenham and QPR manager is interested in the position.

Gareth Southgate was seen as the first choice but turned down the job to carry on managing the Under-21s.

England have a friendly against the Czech Republic and a World Cup qualifier in Slovakia at the start of the season.
