Nigel Clough made to walk through streets to QPR with his Burton side… but he is set to walk out to join Nottingham Forest


NIGEL CLOUGH and his Burton Albion side were made to walk through the streets of west London QPR – but he is set to walk out of the club to join Nottingham Forest.

The Brewers boss led his team among QPR fans afte the team coach stopped short of the main entrance to Loftus Road ahead of the Championship clas today.

He looked determined on the task in hand – but it comes as he has been given permission to speak to his old club Nottingham Forest, where his dad enjoyed so much success.

Burton Albion chairman Ben Robinson will allow Clough to speak to Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi about returning to the City ground as manager.

Clough took charge of the clash with QPR – but his No2 Andy Garner said: “I’m not a liar, I don’t know what his thoughts are.”

But Clough could now meet Al-Hasawi in the next 24 hours as the Kuwaiti chairman has been in London this week.

Clough’s possible move Forest would see him follow in the footsteps of his legendary father Brian had – he won back to back European Cups and a league title with the club.

And Clough was also a senior player at Forest for eight years.

Robinson says Clough, 50, now faces ”a huge decision, we’ll probably know more on Monday.”

Forest host Rotherham on Tuesday and the job could be Clough’s by then.
Al-Hasawi sacked Frenchman Philippe Montanier two weeks ago when Forest’s American takeover collapsed.
Ex Forest star Kenny Burns said: “Nigel will be asking himself ‘can I work with Fawaz? Would he let me run the club lock, stock and barrel?’.

“I think he’ll sit down with him to see what he’s got to say.
“Personally, I don’t like it when players who are legends at a club go back to manage it. Just look what happened to Stuart Pearce.
“If Nigel comes in I hope he does well, but there’s only certainty and that is he’ll be sacked at some time or other, and it would leave a black mark against him.

Third-from-bottom Burton, in their first season in the second tier, are currently 1-0 up at Loftus Road thanks to Luke Murphy’s long range effort.
