Novak Djokovic beats Adrian Mannarino in straight sets to book a place in Wimbledon quarter-finals

Djokovic was forced to wait overnight to get his match played having been kept waiting by Rafael Nadal and Gilles Muller’s five-set thriller on Monday night.

Eager to ensure he got as much rest as possible before a Wednesday quarter-final, Djokovic came out firing right from the start.

And French player Mannarino was like a rabbit in the headlights in the first set, losing his serve in his first game and struggling to make any impact.

Djokovic broke twice to take the first set 6-2 against an opponent who looked to be struggling with a injury on his right hip.

The former world number one was in no mood to go easy on his opponents, and broke the first service game of Mannarino’s in the second set.

But Mannarino finally found a way to break back to take the set to a tie-break, where he opened up a 4-2 advantage.

Yet Djokovic then found his best form and went on to take the set 7-6 and assume total control on the last-16 match.

He broke in the third game of the third set, but then came a sight to worry the Djokovic fans as he called on the trainer to look at an injury in his right arm.

A medical time-out was then needed with Djokovic just two games from victory as the injury concerns grew.

But the injury did not prevent him being able to see out the set to record a 6-2 7-6 6-4 victory for the Serb, who will now have to have treatment before coming out again on Wednesday to face Berdych.
