Oldham let fans in for FREE for League One clash against Peterborough tonight with cash going to charity

JOHN SHERIDAN’s return to Oldham will see fans able to watch for free.

And that comes just hours after Notts County’s owner confirmed that Sheridan’s X-rated rant cost him his job with Magpies.

A Latics statement claims they are “keen to keep the feel-good factor going” following Sheridan’s arrival for a third stint in charge.

Visiting Peterborough fans will also be able to get in for free, with fans encouraged to make donations to charity on the night.

The cynics may see it as a PR stunt, however, with the announcement coming less than 24 hours after Sheridan issued a grovelling apology for his expletive-laden rant at match officials in a 2-0 December loss to Wycombe – the Magpies’ ninth defeat on the spin.

A leaked FA report last week showed the extent of the abuse directed towards the ref and fourth official.

It is claimed Sheridan blasted: ”You’re a f****** c***. A c***.

”You’re a f****** disgrace, you’re f****** useless, you’ve not f****** got anything right today, you should be f****** ashamed, you’re f****** s***, my kids aren’t going to get any f****** Christmas presents because of f****** you”.

While Notts County initially refused to confirm why Sheridan had been given his P45, the club’s owner today claimed Sheridan’s rant had been the final straw.

Alan Hardy said: “I wish to make it clear that this sort of behaviour by any employee of this club will not be tolerated.

“It was our decision to terminate the contract based on what I read in the referee’s report regarding the incident. This is a family-friendly club which aims to be a pillar of the local community.”
