Panama’s president, Juan Carlos Varela took to Twitter to condemn the killing.

He posted: “We wholeheartedly condemn the murder of Amilcar Henriquez.

“We will put all our forces at Colon’s disposal to catch those responsible.”

While, the Panama Football Association tweeted it’s condolences.

Their message read: “We deeply regret the death of our international star Amilcar Henriquez.

“May God protect your soul, Mickey.”

Henriquez was at club side, Arabe Unido, in the city of Colon and played in Panama’s most recent World Cup qualifier — a 1-1 draw against the USA.

And also starred as his side lost in the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-finals against FC Dallas.

Having cruelly missed out on qualification for the 2014 World Cup in the final minutes, Panama are currently above the USA in third place and on course to go directly to Russia.

In the summer, they won their first-ever Copa America match after beating Bolivia 2-1.
