Paralympics: Final medal table from Rio as Team GB seal second spot behind China


GREAT BRITAIN closed out our most successful Paralympics in 28 years with 64 gold medals and 147 in all to seal second spot in the table.

Heroes such as Hannah Cockroft, Dame Sarah Storey and Ellie Simmonds led ParalympicsGB to runner-up behind China.

The medal tally of 120 from London 2012 was passed on day nine of the Games.

Ukraine finished third with 117 medals while America came fourth on 115.

Kadeena Cox claimed gold in athletics and cycling and carried the British flag at last night’s closing ceremony.

Brit star Cox, 25, is the first from these shores to triumph in two different sports at the same Games since 1988.

“I originally expected just to get to Rio, let alone win medals, so to do this is the icing on the cake of an amazing Games.

“I couldn’t have imagined this in my wildest dreams.

“To do something as special as carrying the flag is incredible.”
