Porto’s president forced to apologise after fans chant ‘I wish Benfica had been on Chapecoense’s plane’ during HANDBALL match
PORTO’S president has apologised for his club’s fans after they chanted a sick song wishing rivals Benfica had been on board the Chapecoense plane that crashed in Colombia.
Some Porto fans chanted ‘I wish Benfica had been on Chapecoense’s plane’ during a handball match against Benfica on Wednesday, according to AP.
In a letter provided by the club to The Associated Press, Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa wrote to Chapecoense to apologise for ‘the insulting chants’.
The money raised will go straight to supporting the widows of those who tragically lost their lives in the Colombia plane crash last year.
