The Merseyside club swiftly banned the dad for life after Thursday’s Europa League match.

And he’s also been interviewed by police on suspicion of assault and affray.

The father has now spoken about his regret about the fracas, but also blamed the brawling footballers for “swinging their arms”.

He told the Sunday People: “I’m ashamed of what I’ve done, I already know. I’m not a f***ing d***head.”

The melee broke out in the second half of the Group E game.

The dad claimed a gate was left open which allowed fans to get near the pitch.

He got too close to the brawl after getting “carried away”, and put himself and his son in what he called a “dangerous position”.

He said: “It was not intentional but I’d been too concentrated on screaming abuse at the players for being s***.”

Since then, the father fears a visit from social services and said he has no plans to appeal Everton’s decision.

He has been released by police pending further enquiries.

Everton defender Ashley Williams sparked the confrontation involving players from both sides after pushing Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes to the ground in front of the Howard Kendall Gwladys Street End.

The Premiership club have been charged by European governing body UEFA for failing to control their supporters during the game, which Lyon won 2-1.
