Real Madrid toppled by Dallas Cowboys as world’s richest sports team according to Forbes with Man United in fifth


DESPITE Real Madrid winning the Champions League – they did not stay at the top of the tree as the world’s richest sports team.

Los Blancos have been leapfrogged by the Dallas Cowboys in the No1 spot with a value of £3billion in the new Forbes list, regardless of the fact that the NFL team have had their worst season since 1989.

Real are worth £2.8bn - and despite winning their 11th European Cup in May, they could not topple the NFL giants.

Close behind are Barcelona, on £2.7bn, rising one place since last year and with a new stadium planned by the owners.

New York Yankees baseball team have slipped two places to fourth on the list after missing out on the latter stages of the MLB playoffs.

Manchester United are fifth after another year where they missed out on qualifying for the Champions League having been eliminated in the group stages.

Arsenal were the biggest riser in the whole list and are now 23rd.

The ranking does not take into account the bumper Premier League TV deal which will see clubs in the English top-flight shoot up next year.
