Red Bull duo Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo slammed by their team bosses after crashing into each other during Azerbaijan Grand Prix

RED BULL duo Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo have been slammed as brainless after they bashed into each other in Baku.

The two drivers came close to taking each other out on THREE occasions before they managed the achievement in spectacular fashion.

Red Bull chiefs have demanded that both drivers attend their factory in Milton Keynes to apologise to the team after their double DNF.

Horner said: “They both recognise they have screwed up and they will be apologising to all the members of the team. They are in the doghouse.

“We allow them the race and go wheel to wheel and we discussed it before the race but this is the culmination of two guys taking things into their own hands, which should not happen.

“They touched wheels earlier in the race and were told to calm it down a little bit. We don’t want to interfere and they have been very good until this point.

“They are both to blame but they have got to show each other respect.

“They have been reminded that they have a responsibility to the team and they are highly paid individuals and they have to act with the team’s interest in mind, not their own.”

Meanwhile, Red Bull’s motorsport adviser, Dr Helmut Marko, added: “I don’t care who is to blame.

“Both drivers should have enough brain to avoid such an accident. We will take measures to guarantee it won’t happen again.”

The flashpoint happened on lap 40 as both drivers hurtled into Turn One, Ricciardo tried to make a move, locked up and slammed into the rear of Verstappen’s car.

But the two also made contact on lap 12 while they came close on another two occasions.

It is now the second race in succession that Verstappen has been involved in a controversial crash after he clattered into Sebastian Vettel in China.

However, he was staying tight-lipped as to who was to blame for causing this crash.

He said: “We lost a lot of points unnecessarily. We don’t need to speak about who is at fault because we are representing a team.

“This has happened before, you learn from it and we have to make sure it doesn’t happen again. We will talk about it and see what happens.”

Ricciardo, who won in China, said both he and Verstappen were left feeling bad about their collision.

He added: “We are thankful we are allowed to race, myself and Max love to race.

“We did get close a few times, sometimes we are on the limit and unfortunately it ended like it did.

“It is not a nice situation and we both feel bad.”
