Swansea paid Bayern £7million last summer to take Sanches on a season-long loan.

But the 20-year-old made just 12 league appearances without scoring as the Liberty Stadium club dropped into the Championship.

Bayern paid Benfica £31m for Sanches after he helped Portugal win Euro 2016, earning the Golden Boy award for the tournament’s best young player.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: “Sanches is coming back to us.

“Our new coach Niko Kovac will try to bring him back up to his previous level, and it is an exciting challenge.

“Renato had had two tough years behind him, which to my mind is bound up with him being named Golden Boy in 2016.

“But we had complete faith in him two years ago – and we won’t condemn him now.”

Reports in Portugal had claimed Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo wanted to add Amadora-born Sanches to his collection of Portuguese players at Molineux this summer.

But for now it appears the Bundesliga giants are keen to bring the talent back into the fold to see if he can finally settle and develop in Germany.

Sanches was regarded one of the most exciting young talents in world football having make a huge impact as a teenager at Benfica.

Manchester United made a big push to try to sign him when Jose Mourinho first arrived at Old Trafford, but they lost out to Bayern in the race for his signature.
