ANDY LEWIS won gold for Team GB in the men’s PT2 Para-triathlon at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.
Lewis secured Britain’s 13th gold of the games so far as he finished in 1 hour 11 minutes and 49 seconds in what is the first time the Para-triathlon has featured at a Paralympics.
Lewis was over whelmed and said: “I can’t believe that has happened.”
“It brings tears to my eyes that I’ll be able to tell my kids that I won this gold medal.”
“Perhaps I’ll have my first beer in two years now!”
The 33 year old lost his right leg after a motor cycle accident when he was just 16 years old.
Sabrina Fortune won a bronze medal for Team GB as she threw her personal best of 12.94m in the final round.
Ewa Durkska of Poland won gold with a throw of 13.94m which could not be matched but Fortune was pleased she managed to win bronze.
Fortune was over the moon to get her medal:
“No word can put a picture on that – it’s the most amazing thing you can do.”
“I came here for a personal best – I didn’t think I’d get a medal as well. It’s such an honour to run around the track with the GB flag behind you”.
“I hope, maybe, in Tokyo I can get the gold medal.”

Meanwhile there is another chance of gold tonight when the two Ellie’s, Robinson and Simmonds compete in tonight’s S6 freestyle final.
Simmonds made her name with her unbelievable performances in London 2012 and in fact inspired Robinson to take up swimming.
Both will be looking to win gold in the freestyle and Robinson is confident she can once again turn heads tonight.
She said: “I’ve got loads of confidence after winning that gold, it feels great knowing I’ve got the potential to do well.”
