It took O’Sullivan just over an hour to register a 4-1 victory against Zhang Yong at the Barnsley Metrodome.

He sunk the pink and was only one ball away from a total clearance of 136, but he decided to hand his cue over to the stage invader – who was doing laps of the table.

Before playing the shot, she joked: ‘Do I get money if I get it in?’

The fan, who was dressed in a lilac cardigan and jeans, missed two shots before being ushered away be security.

Following the incident, O’Sullivan told EuroSport: “I didn’t know what to do at first. She said to me ‘I’m just having a jog’.

“I was like ‘go on then, carry on, I’ll play another shot while you’re at it’.

“I thought she was going to pot it. I really wanted her to pot it.

“I thought one of the security guys was going to rugby tackle her – it would have killed her! I saved her from getting rugby tackled!”

The Rocket threatened to pull out of the competition earlier this week after organisers objected his choice of footwear.

After spraining his ankle, the 41-year-old was cleared to wear trainers in the English Open.

The injury went unnoticed as the five-time world champion cruised to a 4-1 win on a break of 123 over Zhang.
