Ronnie O’Sullivan recalls how fiancée called him from a freezer as she hid from Las Ramblas terror rampage

RONNIE O’Sullivan has spoken about the terrifying moment his fiancee hid in a restaurant fridge as a terrorist who had just mowed down innocent bystanders on Las Ramblas was on the run.

The snooker ace took a call from his distraught partner Laila Rouass as she cowered in the freezer room following the atrocity in Barcelona, Spain.

Fanatic Younes Abouyaaqoub killed 13 people and injured more than 80 in his murderous rampage.

Ronnie, 41, revealed that Laila was forced to run for cover as cops hunted for the deranged driver.

The five-time world champ spoke of his despair when speaking to wife at a hotel, reported Mirror Online.

He remembers watching the reports on an American news channel later thinking “s***, this is serious”.

“I felt helpless, I was very nervous for them,” he said.

“It hit me later when I started watching it on CNN live.

“It was a huge relief to know they were both safe.”

Laila, who starred in Holby City and Strictly Come Dancing, has been engaged to the snooker legend since 2013 and they spend every night together when he’s not touring, according to Mirror Online.

Tweeting directly during the sick van assault in Las Ramblas, she said: “In the middle of the attack.

“Hiding in a restaurant freezer. Happened so fast. Praying for the safety of everyone here.”

Laila also posted a video of helicopters flying overhead, adding: “Gunshots just heard. Armed police running down the street looking for someone.”

In a series of further tweets, she wrote: “The whole of Las Ramblas and surrounding roads in lock down with armed police everywhere.

“Thank you to the staff at the restaurant for staying calm and keeping us safe. I love you Barcelona.”

She’s been a rock to Ronnie who has battled depression and been to rehab for drug and alcohol addiction.

He told the Sun how he had a breakdown during last year’s world championships.

The Rocket, who stormed out of the Crucible after beating David Gilbert in the first round, was driven straight down to London for medical treatment.

He joked: “I love a breakdown.

“I’m so used to dragging myself up from a low.

“The low doesn’t bother me, because I’ve been so low I know I can come out of it.”
