Roy Hodgson picks up injury as England players take first training session ahead of Iceland clash

ENGLAND manager Roy Hodgson took his first session after finding out his squad will face Iceland in the last-16 of the Euros.

But the Three Lions boss had to sit out of training for a brief spell to receive treatment on a bothersome ankle – he quickly returned to the field.

Hodgson would have been watching Wednesday night's matches with keen interest to find out who they would face on Monday night.

After Portugal could only draw with Hungary in a frantic 3-3 draw, Iceland scored a dramatic late winner to see them finish second in Group F and set up a meeting with England in Nice.

All 23 England players were present for the session.

England striker Jamie Vardy took part on Thursday morning after Leicester City announced he had signed a new four-year deal with the Foxes.

Vardy had been a target for Arsenal, after Arsene Wenger had made a £20million bid to activate a clause in his contract.

However, the striker - who scored 24 Premier League goals last season as Leicester won the title - has decided to snub the Gunners in favour of remaining at the King Power Stadium.

England enter Monday night's game against minnows Iceland on the back of a morale-sapping 0-0 draw with Slovakia.

After the injury time win against Wales, Hodgson elected to change six starting players for the game.

The England manager, who claims he only really changed four players, was criticised for making changes to a winning team.

His substitutions were, again, called into question.

England dominated possession against Slovakia but managed just five shots on target from 29 attempts as they struggled to create clear-cut chances.

Iceland, who have a population of just 330,000, have been the surprise of the tournament.

The minnows are so far undefeated, having picked up 1-1 draws with Portugal and Hungary, before Arnor Traustason set up the England clash with a 94th minute winner against disappointing Austria.
