Russian emergency services hold anti-terror drills as they ramp up preparation for 2018 World Cup

RUSSIAN emergency services have gone through a rigorous anti-terrorism training drill as they ramp up preparations for the 2018 World Cup.

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews were all part of a training exercise in Russian city Kazan, 12 hours east of Moscow.

Dramatic pictures show ‘victims’ drenched in fake blood in and bandages, being carried away from harm at the Riviera Hotel in Kazan.

Emergency services worked to get injured victims out of the hotel and into ambulances and to secure the area around the building.

Not only do the Russians have the World Cup coming up, the Confederations Cup takes place this summer.

Eight teams will head to Russia to compete in the competition.

Russia, as hosts, are in the same group as OFC Nations Cup winners New Zealand, Euro 2016 winners Portugal and Concacaf Cup winners Mexico.

Group B has Copa America winners Chile, World Cup winners Germany, Africa Cup of Nations winners Cameroon and Asian Cup winners Australia.

Speaking last week on an official visit to see how preparations were progressing, Fifa president Gianni Infantino claimed that Russia will host the "best World Cup ever".

He said: "From what I have seen so far, particularly after this visit, I am even more convinced that this will be the best FIFA World Cup ever.

"And I have some comparisons with other competitions from my previous work... I am convinced it will be a great success."

Russia has been criticised for their failure to deal with hooliganism and racism among fans of domestic clubs.
