Ryder Cup 2016: “S***, really s***” – Danny Willett’s no holds barred account of first clash with Americans

DANNY WILLETT needed only three words to describe his first Ryder Cup: “S***, really s***.”

The Masters champion’s week from hell started with his brother Peter’s infamous article on Americans.

Willett was forced to apologise on his brother’s behalf and then faced an uphill battle to win back the fans so supportive when he won his first Major at Augusta.

In truth, the heckling given to Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia was probably worse, but still it put a downer on Willett’s week.

And, asked to describe his first Ryder Cup after America’s 17-11 win, Willett said: “S***. Being honest. Sorry, would you like me to elaborate? Really s***.”

Willett did not win a match at Hazeltine and was surprisingly benched for the first morning’s foursomes.

His luck did not improve and on Sunday he was the biggest loser in the singles, going down 5&4 to rookie Brooks Koepka.
