Ryder Cup 2016: Seven of the worst outfits on show over the years from Team Europe and USA

THERE’S the drama, the noise of the crowd – and the dodgy jumpers.

It can only be the Ryder Cup – and this year’s competition is promising to be a fraught four days at Hazeltine, with the US looking for their first triumph since 2008.

And to celebrate SunSport has picked out the worst attire from over the years – and there’s some absolute shockers.

7. 1983 US Team

WE begin with the US team of 1983, who look like they’re on their way to a Miami Vice convention.

Bright blue trousers, a chequed sky blue jacket and chunky blue tie – staggeringly awful.

They triumphed this year, despite Eddie the Eagle seemingly gatecrashing the team.

6. 2010 US Team

WE doubt Tiger Woods, one of the golfing greats, took a look at this and said ‘Nice, I like the lilac’.

Not only that, the American’s were failing to cope with the chilly temperatures at Celtic Manor and paired the cardigan with undershirts.

5. 2008 European Team

FINALLY a European entry, and it’s certainly worth a place.

It was eight years ago that the USA last tasted victory in the Ryder Cup at Valhalla – and they probably rushed through the tournament so they didn’t have to look at these hideous blue polo shirts.

4. 2006 US Team

THE Americans tried to fit in with the locals when they arrived in Dublin – but instead had people wishing they’d get back on the plane.

Sporting awful brown jackets and matching beige slacks, the team looked like a bunch of academics off on a lads holiday.

3. 2010 US Team (again)

IT rained and the fans probably thought, thank god, they’re putting those awful purple pullovers away.

Wrong – out came the shellsuits. We’re almost speechless.

2. 1961 US team

IT’S not just a modern phenomenon to turn up looking ridiculous, as this picture of the 1961 US team shows.

They’re all dressed as milkman, probably because they can.

1. 1999 US team

THE ultimate in awful, awful golf clothing – not just in the Ryder Cup but ever.

This bergundy monstrosity came from the year when everything seemed two sizes too big and included framed pictures of past Ryder Cup glories.

A truly disastrous shirt.
