EDSON PEREIRA LISBOA claims his ELEVEN fingers don’t give him an extra edge in goal.
The Brazilian, referred to as ‘Edson six fingers’ has an extra finger growing out of his left thumb.
The 32-year-old has a rare genetic condition called polydactyly, which directly translates to ‘more fingers’.
Speaking to Brazilian publication, Journal O Sul, he said: “Many ask me if I use a special glove, but no. My hand fits into a normal one.
“Many joke, when I get a hard ball they say I have an advantage. Sometimes they even ask me if they charge me more for a manicure.”
As a child doctors suggested the extra finger be amputated, but Edson’s mother refused the surgery.
The 6ft 2in keeper plays for Brazilian side ABC Futebol Clube, who were recently relegated to Serie C.
Edson started his career with Atletico Mineiro, coming through the youth ranks and earning his promotion to the first team in 2005.
Current Brazilian national team coach Tite was the manager of Mineiro at the time.
The keeper then moved on to Brazilian Serie A sides Atletico Goianiense and Paranaense, but failed to make his mark – most recently moving onto ABC in 2016.
