Sky and BT agree to sell their channels to each other with prices set to fall for viewers

PRICES for Sky and BT TV are set to fall after the rivals agreed to sell their channels on each other’s platforms.

Sky viewers will access BT Sport content — including Premier League, Champions League and Europa League football — with a single Sky subscription.

Meanwhile BT set-top boxes will sell Sky’s Now TV service — which includes Sky Atlantic, Sky One, Sky Living, Sky Sports and Sky Cinema.

The services will be available to Sky’s 22.5 million subscribers and BT TV’s 1.8 million customers from early 2019.

The deal strengthens both firms’ bargaining position on sports rights, with bidding for Premier and Champions League broadcasting rights starting early next year.

Sky group chief executive Jeremy Darroch said that the move was part of a strategy to “broaden our appeal and to open up new revenue streams”.

It currently costs £25.99 a month to get BT Sport on Sky’s platform.

Gavin Patterson, chief exec of BT, said: “It’s the next logical step.”

Last week SunSport revealed the Premier League tender document for the TV rights to its fixtures for the 2019-22 seasons could see live Saturday night matches to rival the likes of Strictly and The X Factor.
