Southampton have long admired 24-year-old Alcacer, a Spanish talent who is ready to move on after struggling to make the first team at the Nou Camp.

Alcacer was a regular with Valencia before making a £30million move to Barca in 2016.

He scored 29 times in two seasons with them.

This season he has appeared only 18 times for the La Liga champions-elect, scoring six goals.

Southampton have truly been struggling for goals this season and don’t want a repeat if they do survive in the Prem.

They have not scored in the top flight since February 24 so it’s little wonder they are floundering in the relegation zone.
