Spectacular overhead kick by Galatasaray striker Eren Derdiyok evokes memories of Wayne Rooney’s famous effort

GALATASARAY’S Eren Derdiyok scored a contender for the greatest overhead kick of all time.

The Swiss striker netted a stunner against Rizespor in a 2-0 victory.

Wesley Sneijder crossed in from the right and Derdiyok expertly rearranged his body to power an effort into the bottom corner.

It’s even possible to see the fantastic concentration on the 28-year-old’s as he waits for the ball to come down.

Manager, Jan Olde Riekerink was in clear disbelief as Derdiyok reeled away in celebration at his tremendous goal.

While Galatasaray midfielder, Nigel de Jong, who was in the crowd for the match, put his hand over his mouth and looked on in astonishment after the striker.

Derdiyok’s goal evoked memories of two similar efforts scored by current Manchester United strikers.

Wayne Rooney’s unforgettable effort — which won the Manchester derby in 2011 — was described by Sir Alex Ferguson at the time as the greatest goal ever scored at Old Trafford.

The England captain had readjusted his body in mid-air to fire past Joe Hart and into the top corner.

And who can forget Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s long-range acrobatics from Sweden?

Hart — once again — was caught in no man’s land as he came out to clear the ball.

And United’s current No.9 — whose black belt in taekwondo allows him incredible flexibility in his legs — struck the ball, despite it being way above his head.

It went up in the air and landed just below the crossbar as Hart was scampering back.
