Speedway World Cup final: Tai Woffinden inspires Great Britain to second place – then gives his medal to girl in the crowd

DOUBLE world champion Tai Woffinden inspired Great Britain to second place in speedway’s World Cup final – and then gave his runners-up medal to a young girl in the crowd.
Woffinden, 25, offered the young girl a chance to join him on the rostrum, before presenting her with the prize as a priceless souvenir.

Woffy said: “A medal is a piece of metal that will sit on the wall for years. I picked her out of the crowd and put the medal round her neck.
“Hopefully it will be something her family will remember for the rest of their lives. That means more to me than taking it home and chucking it under the stairs with all the other ones.
“As I was heading to the rostrum I saw her waving her Union Jack flag and it made me smile . I thought it would be great if I invited her onto the presentation ceremony and gave her my medal.”
Poland won the World Cup for the first time in three years in front of a sell-out crowd at the New National Speedway Stadium in Manchester – scoring 39 points, seven ahead of Great Britain in second place.
