St Helens star Jordan Turner is ready for the Canberra snow ahead of NRL switch

JORDAN TURNER is ready to play in the snow in Canberra and joked: “It will be just like Oldham.”

The St Helens star heads to Australia’s NRL next season — and will make it an English hat-trick for the Raiders alongside Josh Hodgson and Elliott Whitehead.

But while Sydney and Queensland have the picture postcard beaches and sunshine, snow is not uncommon in the capital.

And Turner is braced for whatever the Canberra winter throws at him after growing up in the Lancashire town.

Turner, 27, said: “I’m not concerned about the weather. I’m from Oldham, I’m used to snow drifts!

“I think I can do something when I go over there. I adore playing for St Helens but it’s probably become my time to take a different route.”

Turner has some unfinished business before he can even turn his attentions to Australia and after five straight wins – including a derby success at Wigan – Saints are fourth heading into the Super 8s.

And he believes Keiron Cunningham’s men can kick on from here.

Turner added: “We had a period where we really struggled but we seem to have had a kick up the backside and we’re playing some good stuff at the minute.

“We all got together and relieved the pressure.

“We said we’ve got nothing to lose and we’ll just have a crack until the end of the year.

“Confidence is a big thing. When its low it hard to get out of a lull now I’m happy at the minute but I want to go up another level and go out on a high.

“Things change quickly. We can only go forward and we’re looking to finish strongly but we’ll have to go to the next level from now.”
