Just 16 days after having his appendix removed, the scrum-half scored a try and drop goals to hand Castleford a 20-10 lead with 16 minutes left.

And when Saints responded with three late tries, Gray was on hand to kick a last ditch penalty before winning the match with a golden point drop goal in extra time.

Leeds were also made to sweat in their semi-final against Hull FC.

The Rhinos threw away a 12-0 lead to trail 16-12 going into the last 20 minutes.

But Liam Sutcliffe weaved through a string of Hull defenders to score the winning try on 62 minutes as Leeds secured a place in their 11th Grand Final.
