DENNY Solomona would leave rugby league wide open to poaching raids from rugby union if he is allowed to walk away from his contract.
The Castleford winger has been named in Sale’s squad for the European Champions Cup.
That is despite the furious Tigers threatening to sue him for refusing to come back to training and his agent Andy Clarke’s role being investigated by a QC and the Rugby Football League.
Solomona is believed to have ‘resigned’ from his contract, which lasts until 2018, and is expected to be unveiled by the Sharks next week.
And RFL chief executive Nigel Wood revealed the concerns the game has if he is allowed to switch codes almost at the drop of a hat.
He said: “It’s a concern for more than the game. There are profound potential implications for the whole of the sport.
“Contracts are to be respected, it’s almost the law of the land to expect contracts to be fulfilled.
“The last big move like this was Sonny Bill Williams and that was dealt with once everyone worked out where they stood legally.
“We’ve been in contact with both the RFU and Premier Rugby to express our concerns, they are aware of our position.
“I think there will be a conclusion, whether it’s on the horizon or not, I don’t know.”
Chris Sandow also told Warrington he would not be back for 2017[/caption]
Solomona’s move has come on the back of Chris Sandow telling Warrington he will not be back for 2017.
And Leeds have placed a £250,000 price tag on the head of James Segeyaro, who insists he will not return for training as he cannot settle into life in England.
But the hopes of both of getting a move back to the NRL have been dealt a blow after Wood revealed talks with Australian bosses.
He added: “The NRL were supportive of the principle that contracts are contracts.”
