WAR-TORN Syria have incredibly qualified for the World Cup 2018 play-offs.
The Middle Eastern country has been torn apart by a brutal civil war which has lasted six years.
But they managed to earn a 2-2 draw against nearly-neighbours Iran to make history and book a place in the play-offs.
Omar Al Soma was Syria’s hero as he pounced in the 93rd minute to salvage a point and rescue his country’s World Cup dream.
It means Syria finished third in Group A of the Asian World Cup qualification stages on 12 points.
They drew level on points with Uzbekistan but managed to get a plus-1 goal difference compared to their opponent’s minus-1.
Syria also managed to beat China by a whole point, with Qatar finishing rock-bottom of the group.
Iran took first with an impressive 22 points, winning six, drawing four and losing zero of their ten games.

But it was also party time for South Korea, who finished second in the table.
They have now qualified for the World Cup finals for the TENTH time in a row.
And South Korea will be hoping there’ll be more to celebrate next summer in Russia as tensions heat up back home with their neighbours in the north.
