The Open: John Daly’s postcard trousers, Justin Thomas’ retro cardigan and tie and Jason Day’s hi-tops steal fashion spotlight at Birkdale
THE OPEN is underway – and with it some truly dodgy fashion statements.
John Daly famously won the 1995 Open at St Andrews wearing a Reebok jumper that looked like something he grabbed from the back of his car at the last minute.
And he was back at it in some garish slacks that actually featured pictures of postcards from around the world.
American Justin Thomas rolled back the years in an interesting cardigan and tie combination.
His “classic Open look” by Ralph Lauren featured a “woven knit skinny tie” and, speaking of the look before teeing off, said he couldn’t wait to”rock it”.
Perhaps worst of all were Jason Day’s hi-tops.
Rickie Fowler has donned elasticated trousers with the retro trainer style before.
But Day’s bright white shoes stood out even more so against his all-black attire.

Speaking of bright, it was impossible to miss Anirban Lahiri in the rough.
The Indian star wore white shoes, white socks, white trousers, white glove, white shirt, white top and white hat.
Fans weren't immune to a few bad choices though.
One bloke sparked memories of Ian Poulter's old Union Jack trousers.
