Thomas Muller puts Manchester United on alert after admitting he considered moving to Old Trafford and may still leave Bayern Munich

THOMAS MULLER admits he may leave Bayern Munich after 17 years with the German giants.

The striker has said that he considered a move to Manchester United in 2015 after receiving a world-record bid from the Reds.

Muller has fallen out of favour with the German club and has not ruled out playing for another club before he retires, according to Kicker.

Former Bayern mentor Louis van Gaal filed an £85million bid for the German during his spell in charge at Old Trafford.

The transfer failed to materialise and the forward was convinced to stay with Bayern, with whom he has won six Bundesliga titles in total.

Muller told Kicker: “There was a stage when the subject arose two years ago when I considered it.

“But then the club immediately backed me and I was told I belong here.

“I didn’t have to think about it a great deal after Bayern said we are counting on you and that you are an important man for us.”

However, Muller has slowly dropped down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena and he only tallied nine goals in all competitions last term.

The German has netted 161 times in 400 outings throughout his long-term spell with the club.

When questioned about a possible move away from his club, he said: “Of course, it’s possible.

“When my time is up, it’s up.

Schweinsteiger was here for over 10 years and now he’s been gone for over two years and another player is here instead.

“It will be exactly the same with me. If I drop dead tomorrow, there will be a funeral, yet on Friday, 11 players will still be out on the pitch. That’s life.”

Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool also indicated their interest in the Munich star this summer, with a big-money deal expected to lure the striker away from Germany.
