HULL KR and Salford may rival Catalans’ move for St Helens star Matty Smith.
The former England scrum-half is believed to be available for loan once today’s fixtures are out of the way.
Danny Richardson’s emergence at number seven has seen Smith drop out of coach Justin Holbrook’s side.
Now Rovers and the Dragons are likely to try and bring in the 30-year-old for the remainder of the season.
But Salford boss Ian Watson is also believed to have Smith on a six-man shortlist of targets he is working from to bolster his squad.
Warrington’s Matty Russell, whose place in the pecking order has gone down one after Josh Charnley’s return to rugby league, is close to signing for them.
And it is believed Smith is also a player they are interested in, particularly because of his goalkicking abilities.
However, until Catalans made their move after Luke Walsh’s ankle injury – a move they may revisit after their clash with Huddersfield.
But SunSport understands that Hull KR are also keen on Smith as boss Tim Sheens looks to add to his squad.
