Tottenham 3 Rotherham 1: Vincent Janssen scores first goal in pre-season win over Millers

VINCENT JANSSEN scored his first Tottenham goal in a 3-1 pre-season friendly victory over Rotherham.

Last season’s Eredivisie top scorer with 27 goals for AZ Alkmaar wasted little time getting off the mark in England, showing his penalty area prowess scoring the equaliser from a Kieran Trippier delivery.

The 22-year-old showed his superb movement and predatory instincts, losing his defender with ease before stretching to poke the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper.

After Danny Ward scored the opener for former Everton defender Alan Stubbs’ Championship side, Janssen’s leveller was quickly followed by strikes from youngsters Shayon Harrison and Marcus Edwards.

Several senior Spurs players played at Spurs’ new training centre Hotspur Way, with Victor Wanyama, Ryan Mason, Nacer Chadli and Heung-min Son all making an appearance.

Janssen will be look to rival Harry Kane for a starting berth in Mauricio Pochettino‘s side after incredible first season in the top tier last year having been signed from the Dutch lower leagues.

Despite a dismal Euro 2016, Kane’s starting spot has almost been completely unthreatened since he broke into the side two seasons ago.

Spurs travel to Australia to face Juventus and Atletico Madrid in the International Champions Cup next week before starting their Premier League campaign away at Everton on August 13.
