TV stars Adam Hills and Alex Brooker feel bumps as they play rugby league

FUNNYMEN Adam Hills and Alex Brooker may be feeling a bit sore after lining up against each other in a rugby league match.

And the big hits certainly came their way, with one opponent telling Hills he enjoyed levelling him!

The stars of Channel 4’s The Last Leg took to the field on Sunday by appearing for Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos in the first ever Physical Disability Rugby League match, which attracted a crowd of 1,500 people.

Once the whistle went, names and reputations counted for nothing – no mercy was showed between the opponents and they were bundled to the floor several times.

One man took great enjoyment out of dishing out punishment.

Australian 47-year-old Hills, who played for Warrington and is a big fan of NRL side South Sydney Rabbitohs, said: “One of their blokes said to me on Thursday night, ‘I’m coming for you,’ wasn’t playing on the wing but moved over there to try and get me.

“He took me out, rammed my head into the ground then in my ear as I was getting up went, ‘I enjoyed that!’

“I walked off the field and thought, ‘Wow, I’d forgotten how tough rugby league is,’ and then everyone came up and said, ‘Wow you took some hits,’ or, ‘You really got hit hard today.’

“I feel better knowing that I was targeted!”

Brooker, 33, appeared for Leeds in what was his first ever game of the 13-a-side rugby code – and some rules needed reminding to him.

He said: “I enjoyed it. I’d never played rugby league before but when we did the warm-ups, I was quite concerned because they were going, ‘Keep the line,’ and I was like, ‘What are we doing here?’

“Then they looked as if to say, ‘You genuinely have no idea what you’re doing.’

“Then there was a moment in the second half where Adam said, ‘Mate, you’re offside,’ and I was like, ‘What?’

“But as an introduction to rugby league it was fascinating, I enjoyed it and it was really good fun.”
