Conor McGregor vs Eddie Alvarez: McGregor knocks out Alvarez at UFC 205 to become the first man to hold two UFC titles at the same time

CONOR McGREGOR’S dynamite hands saw him demolish lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez to become the first simultaneous two-weight world champion in UFC history.

And he unleashed a devastating power display, knocking Alvarez down five times in a round and a half to hold the featherweight and lightweight belts at the same time.

The Dubliner had vowed to rearrange Alvarez’s face and came flying out of the traps in the opening round.

He dropped Alvarez three times in the first five minutes as he showcased his raw power.

Then, in the second, he taunted his opponent, standing with his hands behind his back as Alvarez tried to land some big shots in return.

But a counter shot from McGregor dropped the champ a fourth time as a rocking Alvarez simply had no answer to the Irishman’s power.

And a fifth and decisive knockdown quickly followed as McGregor completed his historic mission.

Notorious, who earlier this week tried to launch a chair at Alvarez’s head,  boasted after the fight: “They’re not on my level.

“You’ve got to have size, reach, length. You’ve got to have attributes.

“He shouldn’t have been in here with me.”

And he had a word for all his fellow fighters who have criticised him along the way.

He added: “To everybody on the entire roster, I’d like to take this chance to apologise… to absolutely nobody!”

The co-main event saw chaos and bedlam ensue as Tyron Woodley – who had a heated backstage run-in with McGregor – and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson fought to a majority draw in their welterweight title fight.

The fight was nip and tuck through the first three rounds, but in the fourth Woodley exploded and came close to finishing the challenger after dropping him twice and locking up a tight guillotine choke.

But somehow ‘Wonderboy’ held on and recovered to win the final round as the fight went to the cards.

But when the results were read, scoring the fight 47-47, 47-47 and 48-47 (Woodley), veteran MC Bruce Buffer announced the result as a split-decision win for Woodley.

But amid much confusion at cageside, the message was eventually relayed to the men in the cage and the result was then announced as a majority draw.

And the night’s third world title fight saw UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk continue her undefeated run and extend her reign at 115lbs with a decision win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

Jedrzejczyk was badly rocked in the fourth round by the durable Kowalkiewicz, who barely took a backward step throughout the 25-minute contest.

But overall it was Jedrzejczyk who held the upper hand, winning a unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring it 49-46 (four rounds to one) in favour of the defending champ.
